19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev claimed his initial championship for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a former world number one, has had a challenging season, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in especial - led to him falling of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's first championship since the Rome competition and first on a hard court from spring of the previous year.

The win also signifies the Russian has secured 21 titles at 21 different events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters together, so to secure a championship is particularly special," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six finals, including in the German tournament in the past months.

His defensive approach and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had caused some to doubt if his skill to compete at the top level was concluded.

Yet the player has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to advance forward and play positively, supported by an improved serving game.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded service breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden professional victory, seized the initiative to push for a third set.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game break points in a competitive third set before the Russian secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner earned victory with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
