The anticipation about this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a strange statue. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer packed with striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio warned that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction implies that the team is likely designing a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. For now, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—elements that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities only possible with a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also famously open-ended, enabling players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be completed in multiple ways, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a clever way.
The Journey Continues
It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can look forward to another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
